In order to protect local wetlands, you need to know how to identify wetlands on the landscape and how to talk specifically about what will be lost with the destruction of a particular wetland.
This section of WWA’s Protecting Wetlands webpages will help you to:
- Determine whether a proposed construction activity will lead to the destruction or degradation of wetlands, and
- Gather and communicate important information about ecological values of the wetland(s) to be disturbed.
More information will be posted soon. In the meantime, you can visit the following websites for information on:
- Wetlands of Wisconsin: Read about the 12 different types of wetlands in Wisconsin.
- Locating wetlands (WDNR): Links to tools and information for identifying wetlands on existing maps and by looking at the plants, soil and water on the site.
- Wetland functional values (WDNR): Learn about the many important public benefits wetlands provide including helping to keep our rivers and lakes clean, preventing floods, providing important wildlife habitat and more.
