Wisconsin Wetlands Association has produced a number of useful wetland publications since 1997. Please contact
us if you are interested in ordering any of the publications:
Wetland Restoration Handbook, 2nd Edition A. Thompson & C. Luthin
We are pleased to announce that the second edition of the Wetland Restoration Handbook for Wisconsin Landowners has been awarded the Distinguished Document Award for 2004 by the Wisconsin Library Association. Judges were "impressed both by the design of [the] document and the breadth of the information presented." This is a special honor since the first edition was also given the Distinguished Document Award in 2000.
This new edition of the Wetland Restoration Handbook, published by the Wisconsin DNR, continues to encourage responsible and effective restoration of wetlands. The authors once again present the fundamentals of wetland restoration in a fun and exciting way. Just as in the first edition, colorful quotes and interesting side-bars provide insight into all aspects of the field. New pictures, photos and chapters were added to the second edition, as well as an expanded reference section highlighting top web sites to visit
This useful guide has been distributed to more than 7,000 Wisconsin citizens. Order your own copy (at $5 each to cover shipping and handling) by email or call our office at 608-250-9971. You may download an electronic version of the handbook from the WDNR's website.
Wisconsin Wetlands - Our quarterly newsletter is available
to all current members and to libraries and other institutions
by subscription. The newsletter contains information about Wisconsin
Wetlands Association programs and issues related to wetland protection
and research. See archived articles in the newsletter
section of this website.
See Cella Chow! A Purple Loosestrife Biological Control Manual
for Teachers (WWA & DNR Staff) - This unique guide for
school and community center educators provides a program for introducing
the concepts of invasive species and biological control methods
into the classroom. Students will learn about biodiversity and
wetlands through their own research into invasive purple loosestrife
plants and environmentally friendly, non-chemical biological control
concepts - specifically the Galerucella beetle. With more than
15 activities for grades 6 to 12, this is an exciting way to bring
"field work" into your classroom. Order your own copy (at $5 each to cover shipping and handling) by email or call our office at 608-250-9971. You may download an electronic version of the educators' manual from the WDNR's website.
Citizen's Wetland Protection Handbook (T.Boswell & E.
Day) - Wisconsin Wetlands Associations first publication (1997)
is no longer available. Information on wetland regulations is now available on this website. Times have changed, but the importance
of citizen action in wetlands protection hasn't. If you can't
find answers to your wetland questions on this website, please
contact us and we'll
try to help.
The Wisconsin Naturalists Book Project (S. Matteson) -
Wisconsin Wetlands Association is pleased to be fiscal sponsor
for this important historical project. Author and naturalist Sumner
Matteson has been collecting material for a two-volume collection
of interviews and writings by over forty Wisconsin-born naturalists.
Chapters begin with short biographical sketches followed by a
selection of the naturalist's own writings woven into selections
from hours of interviews. According to Matteson, "The goal
of this project is not only to portray the lives and work of our
own naturalists, but to raise awareness and hope in our young
people so that they may find their own special niche in the natural
world." Publication expected 2005. Support for "The
Wisconsin Naturalists Book Project" can be sent to Wisconsin
Wetlands Association, 222 S. Hamilton St. #1, Madison, WI 53703.
