Once again, Wisconsin Wetlands Association is partnering with local conservation organizations around the state to offer a series of workshops on wetland restoration. WWA invites participation from land owners, land managers, conservation professionals, and anyone who has an interest in learning about the need for and process of restoring wetland habitats. These hands-on, field-based workshops are a great way to get your feet wet this summer while learning how you can restore wetlands on your own property.
2005 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Registration for each workshop is limited; please register two weeks in advance to take advantage of early bird rates (a $5 late fee applies to registrations received within two weeks of the workshop date). To register, print, complete, and mail the registration form (PDF) along with your registration check made payable to Wisconsin Wetlands Association (222 S. Hamilton St. #1, Madison, WI 53703). Advanced Exploration of Wetland Restoration is a workshop designed to build on the content of Wisconsin Wetlands Association’s introductory restoration workshops and thus provide continuing restoration assistance. We invite all land owners, land managers, conservation professionals, and wetland enthusiasts who have completed one of our introductory workshops to join us for advanced exploration of restoration design and implementation issues. We selected a central location to allow reasonable travel time for participants coming from around WI.
We are developing the workshop agenda and content using results from a recent survey we sent to past introductory workshop attendees requesting information on their greatest needs for continued assistance. We’ll begin on Friday afternoon with a classroom session and spend all day Saturday in the field. The classroom session will include a review and a problem solving session in which our instructors will consult with participants about questions from their own restoration projects; participants are encouraged to bring maps, photos and other information about their sites for this discussion. We will break into teams for Saturday’s field component. With assistance from instructors, each team will complete a comprehensive site evaluation for a pre-restoration site and will share and discuss their evaluation with the class. We will end by visiting a similar wetland site that has
already been restored and that demonstrates potential restoration outcomes.
