ORGANIZING TO PREVENT WETLAND LOSSES WORKSHOPS
Are you concerned about projects that threaten to degrade
or destroy wetlands in your community?
Every year, Wisconsin Wetlands Association receives dozens of calls and emails from
citizens seeking advice on how to stop or reduce the wetland impacts of proposed construction
projects. Through our own experience, and the success stories of many local wetland
enthusiasts, we know that citizen-led wetland protection efforts can make a difference.
To improve the quality of the assistance WWA provides, and to build our capacity to support more community-based wetland protection efforts, we recently launched a new Protecting Wetlands section on our website. We are also offering a series of free workshops, Organizing to Prevent Wetland Losses, to help your organization
become an informed and effective voice for wetland protection in your community.
Participants Will Learn
The public benefits of wetlands, including how they improve lake and river quality.
State and federal wetland protection laws and criteria that must be considered before permits to fill wetlands can be issued.
How the public can influence local, state and federal decisions that impact wetlands.
How local and county government decisions impact wetlands.
Tools, resources and services provided by WWA to help your community protect local wetlands.
Who Should Attend?
Volunteer lake, river and watershed advocates or anyone concerned about wetland development in their community.
