Greetings!

What the hearing will address

.

The purpose of the Hearing is to suspend many of the rules that DNR has adopted in response to the Jobs Creation Act of 2003 to assure the protection of Wisconsin lakes and streams.

The Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) is going after the heart of the Act 118 rules, those rules defining "areas of special natural resource interest", "public rights features" and "priority navigable waters"; section NR 1.016 which defines the DNR's responsibilities to implement the public trust doctrine; and the chapters that contain standards on boathouses, piers and shore protection.

Talking Points in Preparation

.

We're sending you this message today so that you can plan ahead for Thursday's hearing. Right now Wisconsin Wetlands Association and its partners are working to prepare "talking points" to share with members and other advocates.

We'll send another Wetland Alert on Monday or Tuesday next week with these talking points and any other information we have to help people who plan to attend the hearing or contact their legislators about this issue.

Please let WWA know if you plan to attend the hearing so that we can help support your efforts by calling Becky at 608-250-9971.

Your voice is important

.

We have heard that many people from the building and construction industries will be attending the hearing speaking in favor of the rule suspensions. It is critical to have voices from the environmental community at the hearing so that the legislators know that many people in this state oppose these proposed rule suspensions and want to protect our state's natural resources.

Can't attend the hearing? Here's how you can help.

.

If you can't make the June 24 hearing, we encourage you to voice your opinion on these issues by contacting members of the Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR) by telephone in the coming days.

We'll send talking points early next week to help you in your conversations with JCRAR members.
