Catch up with your wetland colleagues over a beer. Attendees can pick up registration materials, review presentation abstracts and plan your conference schedule ahead of time. Presenters are encouraged to load their presentations to conference laptops during this event.

POSTER SESSION AND CONFERENCE SOCIAL

We invite conference & banquet attendees to join us before the banquet presentation to learn about the latest wetland research from over 25 science posters, mingle over a cash bar, and network with exhibiting organizations, agencies, and companies.

We are also thrilled to have members from the Redhorse Band play during this reception. Their acoustic set will include folk-rock covers, as well as several environmentally-inspired original songs.

RAMSAR CELEBRATION

Wisconsin wetland enthusiasts have two reasons to celebrate recent announcements from the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands:

• 2012 Wetland Conservation Award for Education

  Wisconsin Wetlands Association is being honored for its work to promote and increase the number of designated Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance in Wisconsin and the United States. In addition, WWA is the first ever recipient of this award from the United States, joining previous laureats from Thailand, Australia, Japan, Kenya, Peru, and Canada.

• Kakgon and Red River Sloughs as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance

  The USFWS announced in December that the Kakgon and Red River Sloughs complex along Lake Superior's southern shore has received this designation. This is the first tribally-owned Ramsar site in the United States. The site is awaiting its official addition to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, which we anticipate will happen later this spring.
